Cheese Scones (Biscuits) Recipe
These cheese scones are prepared with cheddar cheese and self raising flour. Baked in the oven with a scone dough of flour with milk, cheese and butter spiced with cayenne pepper, the cheese scones are savory and can be served with tea as snacks.
Ingredients
8 oz. self raising flour
A pinch of Salt
A pinch of cayenne pepper
1 1/2 oz. butter
4 oz. Cheddar cheese, finely grated
5 fl. oz. milk
Directions
Heat the oven to 425°F (Gas Mark 7, 220°C).
Sift the flour and salt into a mixing bowl, and add a pinch of cayenne pepper.
Rub the butter into the flour till the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.
Mix in the grated cheese.
Add enough milk to the mixture to make an elastic dough.
Transfer on to a floured pastry board and roll out to 3/4 inch thickness.
Cut into rounds with a 2 inch plain cutter.
Brush the scones with milk and place on a greased baking tray.
Bake in the oven for 10-15 minutes until golden brown.
