Cheese Strata Recipe

Ingredients
12 slices day-old bread
4 eggs, slightly beaten
2 1/2 cups milk
1/4 teaspoon dry mustard
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 1/2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1/4 teaspoon onion
salt, (optional)
Dash of pepper
1 pound process or natural American cheese, sliced 1/8 inch thick
Directions
Trim crusts from bread slices and cut each slice in half.
Arrange 1/2 the bread slices in bottom of buttered 2 quart shallow baking dish 11 3/4 x 7 1/2 x l 3/4 inches.
Combine eggs, milk and seasonings.
Cover bread slices with half the milk mixture.
Top bread with cheese slices, reserving 4 slices cheese for top garnish.
Cover cheese with remaining bread.
Pour remaining milk mixture over bread.
Set baking dish in pan of hot water and bake at 325°, until done, about 1 hour.
Five minutes before end of baking time, top casserole with remaining cheese slices and return to oven to melt cheese.
