| Whole wheat flour | 2 Ounce (For the pastry) | |
| Self rising flour | 2 Ounce (For the pastry) | |
| Margarine | 1 Ounce (For the pastry) | |
| Lard | 1 Ounce (For the pastry) | |
| Salt | To Taste (For the pastry) | |
| Ground pepper | 1 To taste (For the pastry) | |
| Egg | 1 (For the filling) | |
| Milk | 3 Fluid Ounce (For the filling) | |
| Mustard powder | 1/4 Teaspoon (For the filling) | |
| Cheddar Cheese | 1 1/2 Ounce, grated (For the filling) | |
| Onion | 1 (For the filling) | |
| Butter | 1/2 Ounce (For the filling) | |
| Cayenne pepper | 1 (For the filling) |
Directions
MAKING
1) Into a large bowl, mix the flour, salt and pepper
2) Using the fingertips rub in the margarine and lard to get a crumble or sand like mixture
3) Add water just enough for the dough to come together and to leave the sides of the bowl
4) Cling wrap the dough and leave to rest for 30 minutes in the refrigerator
5) Using a roll pin, roll out the pastry and using a 3 inch cutter, cut out rounds to line pastry tin
6) Into a saucepan, melt some butter and sauté the onions till soft
7) Keep aside to cool
8) Line the base of the tart with the onion and then top with grated cheese
9) Into another bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs and mustard powder and some salt to taste
10) Spoon the milk mixture over the tartlet
11) Bake in the oven for 30 minutes at 350F
SERVING
12) Once baked serve the tart cold or warm sprinkled with some cayenne pepper
