Cheese And Date Bread Recipe
Ingredients
8 oz. plain (all-purpose) flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1/2 teaspoon salt freshly ground black pepper
2 oz. butter or margarine
4 oz. Cheddar cheese, grated
2-3 oz. stoned (pitted) dates, chopped
2 eggs, beaten
1/4 pint milk
Directions
Sift the flour, baking powder, mustard, salt and pepper into a bowl.
Rub in the butter or margarine.
Stir in the grated cheese and chopped dates.
Set aside 2 teaspoons of the beaten egg for brushing.
Combine the remainder with the milk.
Add to the dry ingredients and beat thoroughly.
Spoon the mixture into a greased and floured 1 lb.

Brush with beaten egg.
Bake in the centre of a moderately hot oven, 375°F, Gas Mark 5 for 45 minutes until golden brown and firm to the touch.
