Cheddar Puff Recipe
Ingredients
8 slices white bread
3 tablespoons butter or margarine, softened
1/2 pound sharp Cheddar cheese, grated (2 cups)
4 eggs
2 1/2 cups milk
2 tablespoons prepared mustard
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon paprika
Directions
Spread bread with butter or margarine, then cut into large cubes.
Place about one third in an 8-cup baking dish.
Sprinkle with one third of the cheese; repeat with remaining bread and cheese to make 2 more layers of each.
Beat eggs with milk, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and paprika in a medium-size bowl; pour over bread-cheese layers; cover.
Chill at least for 3 hours or even overnight.
Bake, uncovered, in moderate oven (350°) for 1 hour, or until puffed and golden.
Let stand for 10 minutes to cool slightly before serving.
