Ingredients

 Margarine1/4 Cup (16 tbs)
 Milk3/4 Cup (16 tbs)
 Brown sugar1/2 Cup (16 tbs), firmly packed
 Whole wheat pastry flour1 Cup (16 tbs), unbleached
 Baking powder1 1/2 Teaspoon
 Berries2 Cup (16 tbs), sliced
 1 teaspoon cinnamon or nutmeg, optional

Directions

Preheat oven to 350°C.
Melt margarine in bottom of 8 x 8-inch pan placed in oven.
Combine milk, sugar, flour, and baking powder.
Stir slightly, just moistening ingredients.
Pour mixture evenly onto melted margarine.
Don't stir.
Pour fruit evenly over batter; push apple slices into batter slightly.
Sprinkle on cinnamon or nutmeg, if desired.
Bake about 1 hour or until done.
Serve hot or cold.
