Chapatties Recipe

These crispy, delicious and fluffy chapatties are made in traditional Indian style. Quick and easy to make, these are the best pick for the health conscious.

Ingredients

 
4 cups wholewheat flour
 
1 tspn, salt
 
enough water to make a smooth dough

Directions

Sift flour, mix in the salt and gradually add the water.
Knead the dough well as the more you knead it, the silkier and lighter it will be.
Cover with a clean cloth and leave for two hrs.
Knead well again.
Make small round cakes and flatten these out with a rolling pin till they are really thin like paper.
Heat an ungreased griddle and cook the chapatties on both sides.
Turn once, then finish on a hot enamel or tin plate over a gentle heat.
Serve plain, or with a dab of butter in the centre.
If you have to keep them, place one chapatti on top of another in a treble-thick- ness cloth.
They can then be warmed up in a slow oven, but the puffiness they get with the first heating on the plate will be gone.
