Ingredients
Rice - 1/2 kg
Chana dal - 150 gms
Black peppercorns - 1 tsp
Onion - 1 , sliced
Bay leaf - 1
Black cumin seeds - 1 tsp
Ghee - 150 gms
Water - 6 cups
Red chilli powder - 1/4 tsp
Cloves - 4
Cinnamon - 2 cm piece
Big cardamoms - 2
Salt - to taste
Directions
GETTING READY
1 In a bowl, soak the dal for 15 minutes.
MAKING
2 In a pan, boil the dal it in salted water until tender.
3 Put in a strainer to remove any excess water and keep aside.
4 In a pan, heat the ghee.
5 Add in the onion slices with bay leaf, cloves, cinnamon and cardamom and fry until brown.
6 Add in the water, rice, salt, peppercorns, red chilli powder and cumin seeds.
7 Cook on medium heat until tender and the water is absorbed.
8 In a separate pan, heat 30 grams of ghee.
9 Add in the boiled dal and fry for a few minutes.
10 Combine the dal with rice and mix lightly.
SERVING
11 Serve hot.
