Ingredients

 Active dry yeast1/2 Tablespoon
 Warm water1/2 Cup (16 tbs)
 Flour2 1/2 Cup (16 tbs)
 Sugar1 Tablespoon
 Salt1/2 Teaspoon
 Vegetable oil1 Tablespoon
 Egg1
 Glaze
 Egg yolk1
 L 1/2 tablespoons poppy seeds

Directions

1 Dissolve yeast in warm water. Set aside for 5 minutes.
2 Combine 1 cup flour, sugar, and salt in mixing bowl. Add yeast mixture, vegetable oil, and egg. Mix thoroughly.
3 Add enough remaining flour to make a soft dough. Knead on lightly floured surface until smooth€”about 10 minutes.
4 Place in greased bowl, turning to coat top. Cover; let rise in warm place until double€”about 1 hour.
5 Punch down dough. Divide dough into thirds, making 3 ropes, and braid. * Place on greased baking sheet.
6 Cover; let rise in warm place until it is double€”about 30€”45 minutes.
7 Brush with egg yolk and sprinkle with poppy seeds. Bake in a preheated 350°F oven 45-60 minutes or until done. Cool on wire rack.
