Melt butter in large skillet.
Add onions and cook slowly over low heat, stirring occasionally, until soft and golden.
This should take about 30 minutes.
It may be necessary to adjust the heat.
Season generously with salt and pepper.
(Onions may be refrigerated up to 2 days.) To Bake: Preheat oven to 450°F.
Place pizza shell on baking sheet.
Spread the onion mixture evenly over the top.
Sprinkle with blue cheese and walnuts.
Bake for 10 minutes.
Let cool 2 minutes before slicing.
