Ingredients
4 to 6 apples
1/3 cup (80 mL) butter or margarine
1 cup (250 mL) brown sugar
1/2 tsp (2 mL) cinnamon or allspice
2 tbsp (30 mL) cream
1 tsp (5 mL) vanilla extract
Directions
Peel the apples, cut them into quarters and core.
Place the butter or margarine in a 9-inch (23 cm) microwave-safe pie plate.
Microwave at HIGH 2 minutes.
Stir in the brown sugar and the spice of your choice until well mixed.
Place the apples over this sugar mixture.
Microwave 6 to 7 minutes at HIGH, depending on the variety of apples used — they should be soft when touched with the point of a knife, but not mushy.
Remove the cooked apples to a serving dish.
Add the cream and vanilla extract to the syrup in the plate.
Microwave 3 to 5 minutes at HIGH, stirring twice.
When the syrup has thickened, pour over the apples.
Let stand about 1 hour at room temperature before serving.
