Ingredients
2 cups cooked minced meat,ground finely
1 medium onion, finely chopped
1 egg beaten
1 slice bread, crust removed
2 tbsps. cornflour
1 tsp. crushed garlic
1 tsp. ginger juice
1 tsp. salt
2 tsps. soya sauce
1 tbsp. sherry or cooking wine
1 tsp. lemon juice
1 cup peanut oil
2 cups sweet and sour sauce
Directions
Mix all the ingredients except sauce and oil in a bowl.
Knead well and make small balls.
Heat oil and fry meat balls a few at a time until golden in colour.
Remove and keep aside.
Make the sweet and sour sauce as directed.
Add fried meat balls.
Simmer for 5 minutes.
Remove and serve hot.
VARIATION:
Cantonese Sweet and Sour Meat Balls with Vegetables:
Add 2 onions quartered, 2 cups capsicums quartered., 2 carrots peeled, quartered
Fry it in the sameoil left behind.
Pour in the sauce bring to the boil add meat balls and lower heat.
Cook for 5 minutes and remove.
VEGETARIAN VERSION:
Use 2 cups soya mince in place of meat mince.
Soak soya mince in hot water and wash and drain well.
Grind roughly before using.
