Calzones Recipe

The flavor of this Calzones recipe has played on my senses so much that I hardly ever go for any other Calzones recipe. This Italian Calzones is a delectable Side Dish. This recipe is a good way to use Beef. Please try this Calzones recipe and let me know how it worked out for you.

Ingredients

 
1/2 lb. extra-lean (90% lean) ground beef
 
2 green peppers, thinly sliced
 
1/2 cup fresh mushroom slices
 
1 medium onion, thinly sliced
 
1 garlic clove, minced
 
1 tablespoon chopped fresh oregano or 1 teaspoon dried leaf oregano
 
1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil or 2 teaspoons dried leaf basil
 
Dash of hot pepper flakes(optional)
 
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
 
1 loaf frozen whole-wheat bread dough, thawed
 
4 ounces feta cheese, crumbled
 
1/3 cup (1 1/2 ounces) grated Parmesan cheese

Directions

Brown ground beef in medium skillet.
Drain.
Add peppers, mushrooms, onions and garlic; cook until vegetables are tender and all liquid has evaporated.
Stir in oregano, basil and pepper flakes; season with salt and pepper to taste.
Set aside.
Preheat oven to 400°F.
Divide dough into six equal pieces.
For each calzone, roll out one piece of dough on lightly floured surface to 8-inch circle.
Spoon ground beef mixture onto center of dough; top with cheeses.
Lightly dampen edges of dough with water.
Bring edges together over filling; press edges together with fork to seal.
Place on nonstick baking sheet.
Bake 15 minutes or until golden brown.
