Calzone (Main Dish) Recipe

Try this delicious version of Calzone recipe. I am sure, once you taste this deadly combination of sausage and cheese, you'll always love to share it with your friends and family!

Ingredients

 
3 Lbs. Frozen Bread Dough
 
10 Oz. Italian Sausage, sliced
 
1 Small Onion, diced
 
1 Clove Garlic, diced
 
1 Lb. Sliced Mushrooms
 
1 Carrot, grated
 
1 8 Oz. Can Tomato Sauce
 
1 2 1/4 Oz. Can Sliced Olives
 
1 Tsp. Dry Basil
 
1/2 Tsp. Oregano
 
1/2 Tsp. Sugar
 
2 Cups Grated Mozzarella Cheese
 
1/2 Cup Grated Parmesan Cheese
 
Salt and Pepper

Directions

Let frozen bread dough defrost (one or two hours at room temperature).
Brown sausage.
Add onion, garlic, mushrooms and carrot.
Cook until limp.
Stir in tomato sauce, olives, basil, oregano and sugar.
Simmer five minutes.
Add the two cheeses.
Salt and pepper to taste.
Divide dough (each 1pound loaf) into 3 sections.
Pull or roll sections to make circles with 6 to 8" diameters.
Fill the centers with approximately 2 to 3 tbs.of filling.
Fold dough over and pinch sides together to close (shaped like a half circle).
Place on a greased cookie sheet.
Prick tops with fork.
Can brush with oil to promote browning.
Bake at 475 degrees until browned (15 to 20 minutes).
To reheat, bake at 350 degrees until hot (25 to 35 minutes).
