Calzone Recipe
Ingredients
| Vegetable Oil OR Cooking Fat - for Deep Frying | ||
| Pizza Dough - as required, left in a warm place to rise | ||
| Sliced Prosciutto OR Salami - 1/2 pound | ||
| Mozzarella Cheese - 1/2 pound, cut into 1 by 1/4 inch julienne strips | ||
| Dried oregano - as required | ||
| Ground black pepper | 1 To taste | |
| Olive Oil - as required | ||
Directions
MAKING
1. In a deep fat frying pan heat 3 to 4 inches of vegetable oil or cooking fat to 375°F.
2. Punch the pizza dough, roll to about 1/8 inch thick and cut it into 4 inch rounds with a cutter or the rim of a glass.
3. Keep a piece of prosciutto on one half and a strip of cheese on top of it.
4. Sprinkle a little oregano and pepper, and dribble a few drops of olive oil over the cheese.
5. Fold the other half over the filling to make a half moon and pinch the edges to seal.
6. Deep fry 2 or 3 at a time, turning once in between for 4 to 5 minutes or until they are golden brown on both sides.
7. Take out and drain the calzone on paper towel.
SERVING
8. Serve immediately with some catsup or mayonnaise or mustard sauce.
