California Muffins Recipe
Ingredients
| Boiling water | 1 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Baking soda | 2 1/2 Teaspoon | |
| Shortening | 1/2 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Sugar | 1 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Egg | 1 | |
| Egg yolk | 1 | |
| Buttermilk | 2 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Flour | 2 1/2 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Salt | 1/2 Teaspoon | |
| 2 cup all-bran cereal | ||
| Nuts | 1/2 Cup (16 tbs), chopped | |
| 1 cup chopped dates or raisins | ||
Directions
Dissolve soda in boiling water; cool.
Cream together shortening and sugar.
Add water and 1 egg, beating well.
Stir in remaining ingredients in order given, beating well after each addition.
Store in refrigerator overnight or up to six weeks.
Bake at 375° for 20 minutes.
