Cabbage Patch Stew Recipe

Cabbage patch stew is a ground beef and cabbage stew that can be served as a main course for dinner. Cooked with celery and onions, the cabbage patch stew is flavored with garlic and marjoram and simmered to a finish. Topped with cooked potatoes, the cabbage patch stew can be served with bread rolls or home made meal biscuits.

Ingredients

 
1 pound ground beef
 
2 medium onions, thinly sliced
 
1 1/2 cups coarsely chopped cabbage
 
1/2 cup diced celery
 
1 can (16 ounces) tomatoes
 
1 1/2 teaspoons garlic salt
 
1 teaspoon salt
 
1 teaspoon marjoram
 
1/8 teaspoon pepper

Directions

Cook and stir meat in Dutch oven until light brown.
Spoon off fat.
Add onion, cabbage and celery; cook and stir until vegetables are light brown.
Stir in tomatoes and seasonings.
Cover tightly; simmer 15 minutes.
(To serve immedi ately, see below.) Cool quickly.
Cover and refrigerate.
30 minutes before serving, have ready: 1 can (15 1/2 ounces) kidney beans; instant mashed potato puffs (enough for 4 servings).
Stir in beans (with liquid); heat until mixture boils.
Simmer uncovered 15 to 20 minutes.
Prepare potato puffs as directed on package.
Top stew with potatoes.
