Buttermilk Drop Biscuits Recipe

Buttermilk drop biscuits are crispy and light biscuits baked with buttermilk and flour. Filled with cherries, or raisins, the buttermilk drop biscuits are snacky and can be quickly baked up, anytime.

Ingredients

 
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 375 mL
 
1/4 cup granulated sugar 50 mL
 
1 1/2 tsp baking powder 7 mL
 
1/2 tsp baking soda 2 mL
 
1/4 tsp salt l mL
 
3 tbsp soft margarine, cold 45 mL
 
1/4 cup raisins or dried cherries 50 mL
 
3/4 cup buttermilk or low-fat yogurt 175 mL

Directions

In large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
Stir together very well.
With pastry cutter or finger tips, cut margarine into flour mixture until it is in tiny bits.
Stir in raisins.
Pour buttermilk over flour mixture and stir until a rough batter is formed.
Drop batter in 10 mounds on non-stick or parchment paper-lined baking sheet.
Bake in preheated 425°F/220°C oven for 12 to 18 minutes, or until lightly browned.
