Drain and rinse with cold water.
Put sprouts in a large saucepan.
Add boiling water to a depth of 1 inch.
Add salt and sugar.
Cover and boil about 15 minutes or until sprouts are just tender.
Add butter and pepper and toss lightly.
Put in hot serving dish.
Sprinkle with parmesan cheese.
