In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, salt, butter or margarine and water.
Cook until mixture reaches soft-crack stage or 270°F (132°C) on a candy thermometer.
Stir in 1/2 cup chopped walnuts.
Pour onto prepared cookie sheet.
If necessary, spread to about 1/4-inch thickness.
Melt chocolate; spread over cooled candy.
Sprinkle with remaining 1/2 cup chopped walnuts.
When cool, break into irregular chunks.
