Vanilla Butter Frosting Recipe

Ingredients
6 tablespoons butter
1 16-ounce package powdered sugar, sifted (4 1/2 to 4 3/4 cups)
1/4 cup milk
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
Directions
In mixer bowl cream butter till light and fluffy.
Gradually add about half the powdered sugar, beating well.
Beat in the 1/4 cup milk and the vanilla.
Gradually add remaining powdered sugar, beating constantly.
Beat in additional milk, if necessary, to make frosting of spreading consistency.
Frosts tops and sides of two 8- or 9-inch layers.
Chocolate Butter Frosting: Prepare Butter Frosting as above excepf add two 1-ounce squares unsweetened chocolate, melted and cooled, with the vanilla.
Stir 1/4 cup finely chopped nuts into frosting, if desired.
Mocha Butter Frosting: Prepare Butter Frosting as above except add 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder and 1 tea spoon instant coffee crystats to the butter; continue as directed.
