Ingredients

 1 lb. round steak cut in 1 in. cubes
 Turtle1
 Fat1 Tablespoon
 Salt2 Teaspoon
 2 cupfuls cubed potatoes
 Pepper1/8 Teaspoon
 2 cupfuls sliced onion
 Flour to thicken

Directions

Saute meat in fat.
Put a layer of sauteed meat in a greased casserole, then a layer of onions and then a layer of potatoes, salting and peppering each, using all of the measured salt and pepper and continuing until the casserole is filled.
Over all pour the mock turtle soup and enough cold water to cover.
Measure liquid used.
Cover closely and cook in a slow oven of 350° F. for 2 hrs.
For every cupful of liquid used stir in 1 tbsp flour mixed in an equal amount of cold water.
Stir gently until it is mixed.
Cook 15 min. longer.
A baking powder biscuit crust may be put on the casserole after the thickening is added.
If this is done, raise the temperature to 450° F. for about 15 min. to bake the crust.
