Ingredients
1 1/2 pounds fresh brussels sprouts
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 tablespoon grated orange rind
1/8 teaspoon ground cardamom
1 cup orange juice
1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
1/8 teaspoon dried whole basil
2 oranges, peeled and sliced
Directions
Wash brussels sprouts thoroughly, and remove discolored leaves.
Cut off stem ends, and slash bottom of each sprout.
Place sprouts in a small amount of boiling water, add nutmeg.
Cover, reduce heat, and simmer 8 minutes or until sprouts are tender, drain and set aside.
Combine cornstarch, orange rind, and cardamom in a small saucepan.
Slowly stir in orange juice and lemon juice.
Cook over medium heat until thick, stirring constantly.
Stir in butter and basil.
Make a border of orange slices on a platter.
Spoon brussels sprouts in center, top with hot orange sauce.
