Brown Beef Stew Recipe
The brown beef stew is a flavorful and full bodied beef stew made with cubed stew beef and vegetables of choice. flavored with bay leaves, lemon juice, worcestershire sauce, paprika and garlic with a dash of all spice, the brown beef stew has a thick gravy and can be served with bread, rice or noodles.
Ingredients
1 to 3 lb. stew beef, cubed
2 tbsp. melted fat
1 onion, chopped
5 c. boiling water
1 tbsp. salt
1 tbsp. lemon juice
1 tsp. sugar
1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 or 2 bay leaves
1/2 tsp. black pepper
1/2 tsp. paprika
Dash of allspice and garlic
Potatoes and carrots as desired
1/2 c. cold water
5 tbsp. flour
Directions
Brown beef in fat in Dutch oven or large saucepan; add onion and saute until golden brown.
Add 4 cups boiling water and seasonings; cover and simmer 1 hour and 20 minutes until meat is nearly tender.
Add vegetables; cook 30 minutes, longer.
Add remaining boiling water.
Add cold water to flour gradually, mixing until smooth; add to simmering stew, stirring vigorously.
Cook; stir until thickened.
