Ingredients
2 pounds beef shanks (or 2 pounds beef about 1/3 should be bones)
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
6 cups water
4 whole black peppercorns
2 carrots quartered
2 onions quartered
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
Directions
Brown meat on all sides in a large skillet.
Place meat in the slow cooker.
Add some of the water to the skillet and stir to pick up the browned bits.
Add to the meat along with remaining water, vegetables, and salt.
Cover and cook on low about 10 hours.
Strain broth before using in soups or other recipes.
