Brown Sauces And Gravies Recipe
Ingredients
| Butter | 1/4 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| 2 cups hot water, vegetable cooking water, or beef broth or any combination of the 3 | ||
| Unsifted flour | 1/4 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Salt | To Taste | |
| Pepper | 1 | |
Directions
MAKING
1) In a large skillet, add the roasting pan drippings, then stir in the flour and cook over a medium heat until light brown.
2) Pour in the water mixture, then stir and cook until thickened. Lower the heat and simmer for about 3-5 minutes.
3) Add the gravy browner, if using and season with the salt and pepper to taste.
4) Strain the gravy through a fine sieve for smooth texture.
SERVING
5) Use as required.
