Brown Edge Spicies Recipe

Ingredients

 
2 cups all purpose flour
 
1 teaspoon baking powder
 
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
 
1/2 teaspoon salt
 
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
 
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
 
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
 
1/2 cup vegetable shortening
 
1 cup sugar
 
1 egg
 
1 teaspoon vanilla
 
1 cup canned applesauce

Directions

1. Measdre flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg and ground cloves into sifter.
2. Beat shortening until soft in medium-size bowl with electric mixer at high speed; add sugar gradually, beating after each addition until well blended.
3. Stir in egg and vanilla; beat until mixture is fluffy.
4. Sift and add dry ingredients, alternately with applesauce, blending well after each addition.
5. Drop batter by heaping teaspoon-fuls, 2 inches apart; onto lightly greased cookie sheets.
6. Bake in moderate oven (350°) about 12 minutes, or until cookies are lightly browned around edges.
7. Loosen at once from cookie sheet by running spatula under each cookie; cool on wire cake racks.
8. Store cookies in cookie jar or airtight container with an apple wedge in it to keep them soft.
