Rinse 1 grapefruit and cut into halves.
With a grapefruit knife or sharp paring knife loosen sections; do not remove fibrous center.
Spoon over each half 1 tablespoon sugar (brown, maple, or granulated), 2 tablespoons crushed peppermint stick candy, or 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup.
Sprinkle a few grains of salt over each.
Dot each half with 1/2 teaspoon butter or margarine.
Place grapefruit halves under broiler with tops about 4 inches from source of heat.
Broil 8 to 10 minutes, or until very lightly browned around edges.
(Overcooking may cause a bitter taste.) Garnish the centers with fresh strawberries, cherries, berries, or mint sprigs.
