Ingredients

 
8 slices of bread
 
1 tsp sugar
 
2-3 green chillies (Slit lengthwise)
 
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
 
1 tbsp ghee/oil
 
1 tbsp freshly grated coconut (Optional)
 
1/2 tsp urad dal
 
1 spring curry leaves
 
1 tbsp lemon juice or to taste
 
Salt to taste
 
2 tbsp finely chopped onions
 
1/4 tsp turmeric powder

Directions

Cut the bread into small pieces and keep aside.
Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. When they splutter add urad dal and curry leaves. Saute till urad dal turns to golden.
Add chopped onion and saute till translucent.
Add turmeric powder and green chillies. Mix well.
Add salt and sugar, mix well.
Finally add bread pieces and lemon juice. Mix well. Cover and cook for about 2 minutes.
Add grated coconut, mix well and serve immediately.

Always tried upma with suji. Yesterday, I tried it with a little variation. Instead of urad dal, I used methi, and it was gr8.

Have come across bread upma before, but have never got to actually giving it a try wondering how it would really turn out. This bread upma of urs looks good. Bread is really a wonderful ingredient with which you can be so very innovative. I remember once trying bread gulab jamuns and came out really well.
