Ingredients
1 1/2 cups water
2 tablespoons nonfat dry milk powder
2 tablespoons shortening
2 tablespoons com syrup
2 tablespoons molasses
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
2 cups dark rye flour
21/4 cups all-purpose or whole wheat flour
1 tablespoon anise seeds
1 1/2 teaspoons dry yeast
Directions
Place the ingredients in a bread machine in the order listed.
Set the machine on the 2 hour dough mode.
Complete the 2-hour cycle, then allow dough to rise for 1 hour.
Remove from the bread machine pan to a floured board.
Knead slightly and shape into a round.
Place in a buttered springform pan.
Let rise, covered, in a warm place for 1 hour.
Pierce the top of the dough with a wooden pick, making 12 deep holes.
Bake at 400 degrees for 40 to 45 minutes or until bread tests done.
