Ingredients

 
1 loaf Basic White Bread dough
 
1 egg yolk, beaten
 
Sesame or poppy seeds (optional)

Directions

Cut dough in half.
Roll each half out into a rectangle on an unfloured surface.
Cut into 40 strips.
Roll each strip into a pencil shape.
Place strips far apart on a lightly floured cookie sheet.
Brush tops of sticks with beaten egg yolk.
If desired, sprinkle with sesame or poppy seeds.
Do not cover but allow to rise.
Bake at 400°F (200°C) until brown and crisp.
