Bread N Butter Pickles Recipe
Ingredients
Wash medium sized cucumbers, and slice paper thin to measure 1 gallon.
Slice 8 small onions thinly.
Add 1 red pepper (sweet) diced finely for colour.
In a large kettle combine:
5 c. white sugar
5 c. white vinegar
1 tsp. turmeric
2 tsp. mustard seed
1 tsp. celery seed
Directions
Add enough ice cubes, so that when they are melted, they will nearly cover the pickles, onion and salt mixture.
Let stand 3 hours.
Drain thoroughly in a collander.
In a large kettle combine ingredients.
Boil for a few minutes.
Add cucumbers and onion mixture, simmer and keep stirring with wooden spoon until they change colour (about 10 minutes).
Pack in sterile jars and seal.
