 Butter60 Gram, softened
 10 slices day-old sliced white bread, crusts removed
 Eggs4 standard
 Caster sugar125 Gram
 2 tblspn finely grated lemon rind
 Double cream300 Milliliter
 Milk300 Milliliter
 Ground cinnamon1 Teaspoon
 Pitted dates155 Gram, chopped

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 170°C (325°F/ Gas 3). Butter bread generously; cut it into 4 cm (1 1/2 in) squares.
2. Beat eggs with sugar until thick. Stir in lemon rind, cream, milk and cinnamon. Add bread and dates, mix well and soak for 30 minutes. Pour mixture into a greased ovenproof dish and bake for 1-1 1/4 hours.
