1/4 cup butter or margarine
 
1 cup sifted flour
 
1/4 teaspoon salt
 
2 eggs, well beaten
 
3/4 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
 
1 cup finely-chopped
 
1/2 cup shredded coconut
 
1 teaspoon vanilla
 
teaspoon salt
 
2 tablespoons flour
 
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
 
1 tablespoon grated orange rind
 
1 1/4 cups confectioners' sugar
 
2 tablespoons orange juice
 
1/2 cup chopped Brazil nuts

Directions

Cream butter.
Add flour and salt and mix until thoroughly blended.
Turn into a 7 by 11 by l 1/2-inch oblong pan.
Spread evenly over the bottom of pan and press down with a spatula.
Bake in a moderately-hot oven (375° F) 15 minutes.
Combine eggs and sugar and blend well.
Mix in nuts, coconut and vanilla.
Add remaining ingredients and blend.
Spread evenly over baked first layer.
Bake in a moderately-hot oven (375° F) 15 minutes.
Remove from oven and cool in pan.
Cream butter and orange rind together.
Add confectioners' sugar and orange juice; mix until smooth.
Spread evenly over cookies in pan.
Sprinkle with chopped nuts.
Let stand 30 min- utes.
Cut into 1 by 21/4-inch bars
