Ingredients

 Sugar1 1/4 Cup (16 tbs)
 Water1 1/4 Cup (16 tbs)
 1 three-inch piece stick cinnamon
 1/2 teaspoon anise seeds, crushed
 Ground mace1/8 Teaspoon
 Brandy1/2 Cup (16 tbs)

Directions

Combine sugar, water, cinnamon, anise seeds and mace in a small suacepan; bring to boiling, stirring constantly, until sugar dissolves.
Simmer, uncovered, 15 minutes; strain into a small bowl.
Stir in brandy or rum. Use while still warm.
