Ingredients

 
1/2 cup white sugar (scant)
 
2 eggs
 
4 tablespoons molasses
 
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
 
1/2 cup sour milk
 
1 cup sour cream or 1/2 cup lard. If you use lard increase sour milk to 1 cup
 
2 cups flour
 
2 cups bran
 
2 teaspoons baking powder
 
1 teaspoon salt

Directions

First, drop eggs in sugar and molasses.
Mix.
Second, add sour milk in which baking soda has been dissolved.
Add sour cream.
Sift baking powder and salt with flour.
Add bran.
We have these bran cakes regular for breakfast since fall.
We take 1/2 cup of lard instead of cream and take a cup of milk.
Molasses we get a brown jar full from the barn.
