 Boiling water1 1⁄2 Cup (24 tbs)
 Chopped dates1 Cup (16 tbs)
 Flour2 1⁄4 Cup (36 tbs), sieved
 Baking soda1 Teaspoon
 Baking powder1 1⁄2 Teaspoon
 Salt1 Teaspoon
 Cinnamon powder1⁄2 Teaspoon
 Quick cooking rolled oats1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs)
 Whole bran cereal1 Cup (16 tbs)
 Walnuts1⁄2 Cup (8 tbs), chopped
 Light brown sugar2 Cup (32 tbs)
 Oil/Shortening3 Tablespoon, melted
 Egg1 , beaten
 Butter1 Tablespoon (For Greasing)


1. Pre heat an oven at 175 C (350 F).
2. Grease 9 inch x 5 inch x 3 inch loaf tin with butter and keep aside.
3. In a medium sized bowl, combine dates and hot water. Keep aside to cool.
4. Once cooled, add brown sugar, egg and shortening. Mix well and keep aside.

5. In a medium sized bowl, combine flour, baking soda, cinnamon, baking powder and salt. Sieve together. Add shortening and mix well using hands till they form a crumb texture.
6. Add oats, nuts and cereal and mix well.
7. Add this mixture to soaked date mixture and fold gently, using a rubber spatula.
8. Place in greased pan and bake in pre heated oven for 60 to 80 minutes or till done. Once baked, remove from oven and keep aside to cool.

11. Place on a serving tray, cut into slices and serve warm.
