1 medium-size head red cabbage cored and thinly sliced
 
2 medium-size Cranny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and grated
 
1 tablespoon brown sugar
 
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
 
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
 
1 cup dry red wine or unsweetened apple juice

Directions

1 In a large enameled or stainless steel saucepan, mix the cabbage, apples, sugar, flour, and pepper.
Stir in the wine and bring to a boil over high heat.
Lower the heat, cover, and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 25 to 30 minutes or until the cabbage is tender.
