Directions

GETTING READY
1 Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

MAKING
2 In a pan, heat the butter and oil until foaming.
3 Add in the beef and sauté.
4 Add in the onions and garlic, cook until soft.
5 Sprinkle flour in the pan and stir until the flour has absorbed the fat.
6 Transfer the mixture to an oven proof casserole.
7 Add in beer, thyme, sugar, nutmeg, salt and pepper.
8 Place the casserole in the preheated oven for 2 hours.
9 Spread one side of crisp French bread with mustard.
10 Place the bread, mustard side down, over the surface of the casserole.
11 Place in the oven again without a lid for twenty minutes until the bread is browned.

SERVING
12 Serve hot.
