Ingredients
1 small sized wintermelon/ashgourd
1/2 cup fresh/frozen coconut
11/2 tsp mustard seeds
few curry leaves
Salt to taste
2 tbsp oil
5 red chillies (fried in 2 or 3 drops of oil)
1/4 tsp tamarind paste
Directions
Peel dice and cook the wintermelon.
Grind coconut, red chillies, tamarind paste and half of the mustard seeds to a smooth paste and add it to the cooked wintermelon.
Add salt to taste and about 1/2 a cup of water.
When it starts to boil, cover and cook on a low flame for about 10 minutes.
Now heat 2 tbsp of oil in a different pan and add mustard seeds. when they splutter add curry leaves and pour it over the curry. Mix well.
Serve hot as a side dish with rice.

Yes Anjali..if I use Milk, then I won't use tamarind but am not sure if milk and tamarind go well together or not.

Thanks Snigdha for your comment. If you get Ashgourd try to make this curry using that. First you grind the coconut, chilli and tamarind and in the end add mustard and just grind for abt 10 seconds. You can also prepare this dish adding curd instead of tamarind, which tastes even better.

Try cooking Bottlegourd in Milk to give a better flavor and texture. I normally add the seasoning directly including coconut powder, next time around i shall grind coconut powder, red chillies, mustard seeds and tamarind paste (which i don't use for making this curry). The dish looks really good.
