Homemade Blaukraut Recipe Video

This German speciality, Blaukraut is made from red cabbage and flavored with vinegar, apples onions and last but certainly not least...LARD..this can be left out for those wanting a vegan dish. Perfect for pork chops, pork loin or Sauerbraten.

Ingredients

 
Lard
 
Onion

½ cup apple cider vinegar
 
1to 1/12 tablespoon of all purpose flour

Directions

Melt lard in a pot.

Chop onions and add to the pot.

Peel the apple and remove the core. Dice the apple. Add them to the pot.

Add some Kosher salt and black pepper.

Cut the red cabbage. Remove the core and chop. Add the cabbage to the pot.

Drop a couple of bay leaves, add ½ cup of apple cider vinegar and a little bit of water.

Cover the pot with a heavy lid.

Cook for an hour at medium low heat.

Once cooked add 1- 1/12 tablespoon of all purpose flour.

Serve in a plate and there you have a delicious blaukraut recipe.
