| Salt pork | 1/2 pound, sliced | |
| Ham bone | 1 Small | |
| Water | 1 Quart | |
| Onion | 1 , minced | |
| 1/2 clove garlic, chopped fine | ||
| Carrot | 1/2 , diced | |
| Fat | 5 Tablespoon | |
| Bay leaf | 1 , crushed | |
| Pinch thyme | ||
| Nutmeg | 1/4 Teaspoon | |
| 1 teaspoon hashish, grated (optional) | ||
| Brown sugar | 2 Tablespoon, warmed | |
| Pot | 1 Teaspoon, crushed | |
| Rum | 1/2 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Salt | To Taste | |

Directions
Place beans in heavy iron pot with salt pork, ham bone and water.
Boil slowly.
Meanwhile, saute onion, garlic and carrot in fat in a separate skillet.
Add to pot.
Add bay leaf, thyme, nutmeg and hash.
Cover and cook slowly 3 hours.
Add sugar, pot, and rum.
Season to taste.
Mix well and serve.
