Ingredients

1/2 cup miniature semisweet chocolate pieces
 Walnuts1/4 Cup (16 tbs), chopped
 Sugar2 Tablespoon
 Batter for a 1-layer-size cake
 Birthday candles
 Clear plastic wrap
 Ribbon
 Small plain self-adhesive labels

Directions

For topping, in a small mixing bowl combine chocolate pieces, walnuts, and sugar. Set mixture aside.
Grease and lightly flour 1 3/4-inch muffin pans or line the pans with paper bake cups. Prepare cake batter as directed. Fill each cup two-thirds full. (If you don't have enough small muffin pans, refrigerate the remaining batter while cupcakes bake. Or, for larger cupcake wishes, use 2 1/2-inch muffin pans.)
Sprinkle about 1 teaspoon of topping mixture on top of each cupcake (1 tablepoon for larger cupcakes). Bake in a 350° oven about 12 minutes (about 20 minutes for larger cupcakes) or till done. Cool cupcakes in pans for 5 minutes. Remove from pans, then cool completely.
Insert one candle into the center of each cupcake. Cut about thirty-six 6-inch-square pieces (or twelve 12x8-inch pieces for larger cupcakes) of clear plastic wrap. Place one cake in the center of each piece, then bring up edges. Tie closed with ribbon, as shown at right. Write a good wish or fortune on each label. Stick one label to the bottom of each cupcake package.
