Beets Recipe
Ingredients
| 4 medium-large beets, boiled, whole or sliced in 1/8 inch slices, slightly salted | ||
| Brown sugar | 3 Tablespoon | |
| 1/4 stick butter, more if desired | ||
| Orange juice | 1/2 Cup (16 tbs) | |
Directions
Melt butter in heavy frying pan, add sugar and orange juice, let simmer until sugar is dissolved.
Add beets and stir around in pan until coated.
Keep heat on low and let beets cook until sauce becomes a thick syrup and beets take on a glazed appearance; serve hot, pour pan sauce over beets.
The boiled beets may be stuffed with a variety of meats and vegetables.
Choosing between the kind that bears flowers around the stalk and the kind "that heads at the top like cauliflowers.
The usual way to cook broccoli (fresh) is to tie it into bundles (after it has been washed) and drop into boiling water; cook uncovered for about 20 minutes.
Remove, season with salt and pepper, serve with Hol-landaise sauce, French dressing, cheese sauce, or other sauces.
It may be baked like asparagus in a casserole with cheese sauce making it an au gratin.
