Beetroot Thoran For Onam And Onasadya Recipe Video
Beetroot Thoran Mezukkuveratty is one of the many Thoran dishes that are prepared during Onam in Kerala. This popular and common dish is usually prepared to be eaten along with steamed rice or with a traditional full course meal. This dish is first offered to the Gods on Onam before being eaten. The Beetroon Thoran Mezukkuveratty is also a healthy dish that can be eaten separately as a salad if needed.

Ingredients
Beetroot – 250 grams, diced
Red chillis – 50 grams, coarsely ground
Onion – 25 grams, sliced lengthwise
Salt – to taste
Mustard seeds – 15 grams
Coconut oil – 80ml
Water – 200 milliliters
Directions
MAKING
1. Heat a saucepan. Pour in water, and add diced beetroot and salt.
2. Cook for about 10 minutes till the water dries up. Stir at regular intervals. Remove saucepan from heat.
3. In a small frying pan, add oil and heat till hazing point. Put in mustard seeds, curry leaves. Temper for 1 minutes. Add in sliced onions and coarsely ground red chilli peppers. Sauté for 2 minutes
4. Now add the tempered ingredients to the cooked beetroot in the saucepan. Return to heat and saute for 2 more minutes.
SERVING
5. Serve hot with Onam sadhya.
