 1 small loaf dark rye bread
 Water3 Cup (16 tbs)
 3 cups dark beer or ale
 Sugar1/2 Cup (16 tbs)
 1 whole lemon (both juice and grated rind)
 Light or whipped cream for garnish

Directions

Break the bread in small pieces into a mixing bowl.
Mix the water and beer and pour this over the bread.
Allow it to stand for several hours.
When ready to serve, cook the mixture over a low flame, stirring occasionally, just long enough for it to thicken.
Bring it to a boil and add the sugar, lemon juice, and lemon rind.
