Beef Steak Pie Recipe
Ingredients
| 1 1/2 pounds beef round steak,cut in 1-inch cubes | ||
| All purpose flour | 1/4 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| 1 large onion, cut in pieces | ||
| 2 tablespoons lard or shortening | ||
| Water | 2 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Salt | 1 Teaspoon | |
| Dried thyme | 1/4 Teaspoon, crushed | |
| Pepper | 1/8 Teaspoon | |
| 2 cups diced raw potato | ||
| Pastry | ||
| Topper | ||
| Salt | To Taste | |
| Pepper | 1 | |
| Milk | ||
Directions
Toss beef with flour.
In saucepan cook beef and onion in lard till beef is browned and onion is tender.
Add water, 1 teaspoon salt, thyme, and 1/8 teaspoon pepper.
Cover; simmer 1 1/2 hours.
Add potato.
Cover; simmer 20 minutes.
Prepare Pastry Topper.
Turn meat into a 1 1/2-quart casserole; season with salt and pepper.
Cut slits in pastry; place over hot mixture.
Turn under edge; flute.
Brush with milk.
Bake at 450° till golden, about 15 minutes
