Ingredients

 
Head Red Cabbage – ½ pound,
 
Butter or Bacon Drippings – 3 tablespoons
 
Onion – 1, minced
 
Apples – 1 large, peeled and diced
 
Water – 1 cup
 
Vinegar – ½ cup
 
Brown Sugar – 2 tablespoons
 
Cloves – 5 whole
 
Salt – 1 teaspoon

Directions

GETTING READY
1) Using a mandolin, shred the cabbage finely

MAKING
2) In a saucepan, melt some butter and add the cabbage
3) In a small frying pan, sauté the onion on a low flame till transparent
4) Add the sautéed onion, water, vinegar, sugar, cloves and salt to the cabbage
5) Toss everything to combine
6) Cover the saucepan with a lid and cook till the cabbage is wilted
7) Take off the lid in the last 20 minutes

SERVING
8) Serve the cabbage alongside a meat dish as an accompaniment
