Basic Low-Fat White Sauce Recipe
This white sauce recipe is a basic white sauce recipe. Prepared with milk and thickened with cornstarch, this basic white sauce may be prepped up with a little butter to taste and can be used for bakes or casseroles.
Ingredients
1 tsp. cornstarch
1 cup skim milk to taste
Seasoning without salt
Directions
1. Whisk cornstarch into milk.
2. Heat until mixture becomes thickened, stirring constantly.
3. Season, if desired.
4. For a thicker white sauce, use 2 tablespoons cornstarch.
5. HERB SAUCE: Add chives, basil, dill, thyme, mint, parsley, or rosemary.
6. CURRY SAUCE: Add 1 teaspoon curry powder.
7. HORSERADISH SAUCE: Add 1 tablespoon horseradish.
8. MUSTARD SAUCE: Add 1 tablespoon prepared mustard.
