Basic Brown Sauce Recipe
Ingredients
| 2 tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons margarine | ||
| 2 tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons flour | ||
| Tomato puree | 1/4 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Water | 2 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| 2 packets instant beef broth and seasoning mix | ||
| 2 teaspoons dehydrated onion flakes, reconstituted in 2 teaspoons water | ||
| Sauce | 1 1/2 Teaspoon | |
| Peppercorns | 4 | |
| Cloves | 2 | |
| Bay leaf | 1 Small | |
| Dash thyme | ||
| Dash garlic powder | ||
Directions
Melt margarine in top of double boiler, over boiling water; using a wooden spoon or wire whisk, add flour, and cook 7 minutes, stirring frequently.
Stir in tomato puree.
Slowly add water, stirring constantly.
Add remaining ingredients; cover and cook 30 minutes or until thickened, stirring often.
Divide evenly.
